Banana milk smoothie

Posted on

For obvious reasons, this is not a Home Front recipe.  However, it is an American recipe, circa late war according to my grandmother.  I thought that I would post it anyway, because of its simplicity and lack of added sugar.  (It is, after all, still a war recipe).

Place 1 c regular or evaporated milk in the blender with 1 ripe banana broken into pieces.  Top with 2 tsp molasses/treacle and whirl until combined.  This will make about 1 1/2 c of drink, thin with milk if too thick.

This is a preferred after-school snack for Daughter.  The ripe banana makes it sweet, but it doesn’t have loads of sugar.  I think you could probably sneak in a bit of flax seed or rolled oats too, for fibre.
